Description:
The upgrade of the National Route 6 through the Penhoek Pass required the widening of the road. Lateral support and rockfall catch fences were installed to support the new cuttings. Fairbrother Geotechnical was commissioned to install 4125m² of lateral support to the new slopes which included fibre reinforced shotcrete, 446 tensioned rockbolts, 346 self-drill nails and 200m of 500KJ rockfall catch fences to the top of the slopes. The work was undertaken through a very cold winter with work taking place in the snow for parts of the contract.
